Sunday 6th May
The Retrospective Soundtrack Players' May Day Bonanza

This Sunday The Retrospective Soundtrack Players are very proud to present our annual Bank Holiday shindig at the Edge of the Wedge. Some of Southsea's finest will rub shoulders with great acts from a little further afield in a day of free music and merriment.... from Analogue Manilow's face-melting hugeness to Roxanne Johns' spellbinding vocals, from Southsea legend Andy Foster's acoustic laments to My Name is Ian's tales of Amsterdam strip-search, there is truly something for everyone. Throw in free cake for those arriving early enough to catch the wonderful Matt Benham's opening set and how could you argue? The evening will end with The Retrospective Soundtrack Players performing songs from their upcoming album, a musical realisation of the classic novel 'The Catcher in the Rye'.

"I started this event last year as an opportunity to showcase Southsea's finest musicians from a wide range of genres, and to catch up with all my musical friends who I hadn't bumped into for a while. It was a roaring success and the venue was packed out from the afternoon. This is intended as an ego-free zone - all the musicians share instruments and equipment and last year several new friendships - musical and otherwise - were born. I hope that it will be as successful again this year." - Kyle Evans, RSP

Full line-up (subject to change):

1700 - 1725 Matt Benham
1730 - 1800 Leigh Mary Stokes
1810 - 1840 Andy Foster
1855 - 1925 Analogue Manilow
1935 - 2005 Race Car Hearts
2015 - 2045 My Name is Ian
2055 - 2125 Roxanne Johns
2135 - 2205 Ewar Paris and the Golden Hairs
2215 - Retrospective Soundtrack Players

Best of all, entry all day is totally FREE.

RIBBYN // IS BLISS // ANJA McCLOSKEY

Sunday 13th May £4 adv / £5 door 7.30pm

SENNEN

"Having purloined their name from a song title belonging to Ride, who borrowed it from a rugged Cornish cove, it’s no surprise Sennen have co-opted a sound that is far removed from their home in the Norwich fens, assimilating US sun-drenched harmony pop while espousing shoegazey noise from these shores." - NME

" a twisted combination of mangled Mogwai sound collages, grungey Sonic Youth rhythms, Spititualised-like cacophony and sheets of My Bloody Valentine white noise" -eveningnews24

"the best thing to come out of Norwich since Alan Partridge" - Drowned in Sound

    MELODRAMAS -Friday 13th July

    MELODRAMAS

Melodramas are Matt (Vocals), Rob (Guitars), Greg (Bass) and Sam (Drums).

They’ve spent the last year recording with multi-platinum producer Sam Williams (Supergrass, Plan B, Noisettes) and touring distant shores (China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Australia, Kuwait). Closer to home, Melodramas have been personally requested by Taylor Hawkins and David Johansson of The New York Dolls to join their bands on tour in the UK.

The band release their Kids EP on 5th March 2012 through Jelly Maid Music. It is arguably the first extended play of the year to pay homage to B-Movies, Elephants and Chet Atkins. All songs are produced by Sam Williams and the track Betelgeuse features guest backing-vocals from Gaz Coombes (Supergrass). “Just as well,” says Matt, “as we totally plagiarised his old band”.

The Kids EP will be released digitally and on limited edition collector’s CD. Restricted to a hundred copies, the CD will be packaged in a melodramatic metal tin with poster card and associated surprises. Pre-order Kids EP through the JellyMaid website.

    EVERYBODY GETS ONE

Everybody Gets One, taking influence from Sum 41, Blink 182, Lostprophets and 30 Seconds To Mars, are disgustingly young and talented. Having already been exposed by BBC South, they rejoin Melodramas on the bill after last year's sold out show. Their Never Heard of an Off Switch! EP is to be released...soon.

    BECKY ANDERSON

Becky Anderson is a singer-songwriter superhero who is a mainstay of the Portsmouth circuit and an all-round superhero. Having previously graced the scene in band-form she is expanding her audience and musical repertoire in her own right as a solo artist.

Followed by after-party with WOLF CUB CLUB DJs until 2.00am

    Thursday 26th July
    EVIL SCARECROW
    BLOODWORKS + STRAY BULLETS KILL
    Thursday 26th July 8pm £4adv

    EVIL SCARECROW

"the scariest thing to come out of Nottingham since Torvill and Dean..."

Rising from the ashes of what was undoubtedly the greatest "Blue Peter Metal" band of their time - Thor's Children, Evil Scarecrow have gone on to leave audiences awed by their Iron Maiden meets Black Metal meets stickyback plastic performances.

It is Evil Scarecrow’s impressive song writing and ingenious lyrics that are the key to their success, blending together humour with their love for all things Heavy Metal… though of course a bit of co-ordinated dancing never hurt anyone! It is this passion and enthusiasm which never fails to connect with their audience.

“This excellent little maidenesque group from Nottingham may have one tongue firmly in cheek… but they still rock.”
    - Metal Hammer

    BLOODWORKS

Formed in early 2009 Bloodworks are four teenagers from the depths of Gosport that play a blend of thrashy death metal. Influenced by a vast array of music, the band have forged a unique sound that has been described as sounding like “a bus driving through a school”.
In late 2009 the band recorded and released a two track demo CD which has since been the catalyst for landing many gigs across the south coast including notable support slots with bands such as: Animals As Leaders, Breed 77, Malefice, Annotations Of An Autopsy, Ingested, Martyr Defiled, Postmortem Promises, The Defiled, Lazarus AD, Ted Maul, and Bonded By Blood.

"Absolutely brutal, when this guy's voice broke a true monster was created. Bloodworks have all the skills, panache and onstage flair of bands twice their age and certainly eclipse many locals directing circle pit action from the stage. There's no way at least one of them won't go on to forge a career in music - it's like watching Lamb Of God as teenagers. Bloodworks OWN. Simples. .. "

    STRAY BULLETS KILL

Lovecraft-loving thrash/death metal. No precious haircuts and no practised dance moves. Feat current and former members of Bethlehem Abortion Clinic, Ed Wood, Little London, and an ex-Chaos DJ...

"Some of the crunchiest riffs I’ve heard all week (and I’ve had a pretty crunchy week, I can assure you). Extremely tight and heavy and not once during their set did I feel like I was totally safe being in the same room as them..." WP The Dirty South
