Club NME presents:
THE SHEEPDOGS
KASSASSIN STREET
& Club NME DJs til 2.30am
In August 2011, The Sheepdogs became the first unsigned band to grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
A deal soon followed, and a full length album produced by The Black Keys' Patrick Carney. Since then The Sheepdogs have played SXSW, Bonnaroo, Coachella and are all set for Lollapalooza.
In the UK, they play The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound Circus, Hop Farm Festival, and Club NME, in Southsea.
While most rock bands are all too focused on the riff, The Sheepdogs remember the importance of those other elements that make for great rock music: melody, harmony and groove. To see them live is pure rock and roll jubilation, to revel in the splendor created by 3 part vocal harmonies and heavy hitting dual guitar leads. A beautiful blend of power and imagination, ranging from ferocious rockers to southern boogie and grooving psychedelia. The perfect soundtrack to the summertime.
Over the years,
The Sheepdogs have trekked across Canada in their beaten-down van playing as many new cities as possible. The shows themselves were usually smokin’; the circumstances surrounding them often weren’t. “It was such a challenge pushing through roadblock after roadblock,” recounts Gullen, recalling the trying times of indifference from the industry. “We could rock any crowd we played to,” he says, but seemingly couldn’t shake the stereotypical struggles of the touring rock band. Those struggles often emerge in Currie’s lyrical content, along with musings from ladies, love, and loneliness through to isolation, drugs, and other demons.
In a year's time, be one of the people able to say "I saw them in a small venue, before they were massive"

KASSASSIN STREET
One of Portsmouth's best-known and much loved bands,
Kassassin Street are a 5-piece alternative band. With intense live shows and a strong DIY approach, their music draws on a variety of psychedelic, electronic and rock influences.
Formed in 2010, the band recorded their debut EP in 2011 in a rehearsal room and a bedroom, calling in many microphone-based favours from friends. True to early influences such as The Verve and Can, many of the tracks on EP started as open-ended jams before being molded into the finished versions. Since release the band has gained attention from national and local radio stations including BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio.
Since the release of their debut,
Kassassin Street have headlined numerous events in the south of England, as well as playing support slots for bands including
The Big Pink,
2:54 and
Art Brut. They're totally at home on the Wedge stage and you'd be a fool to miss them.
